Pelé, pseudonym of Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Três Corações, 23 October 1940 – São Paulo, 29 December 2022), was a Brazilian footballer, playing a midfielder or striker role, considered the best footballer in history. As a footballer he linked his career mainly to Santos, with whom he won the Paulista championship ten times, the Rio-São Paulo Tournament four times, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A six times (five, in a row, the Taça Brasil and the Roberto Gomes Tournament once Pedrosa), as well as two editions of the Copa Libertadores, the same number of the Intercontinental Cup and the first edition (out of two played) of the Intercontinental Champions Super Cup. Having moved to the United States of America in the final part of his career, he won a NASL Championship with the New York Cosmos. With 37 trophies won, he is one of the ten most successful players in the history of football. He is the only footballer in the world to have won three editions of the world football championship, an event which occurred with the Brazilian national team in 1958, 1962 and 1970. FIFA recognizes him for the record of goals scored in his career, 1281 in 1363 matches, while in official matches he scored 757 goals in 816 matches with a scoring average of 0.93 goals per game.
