Graeme Souness (Edinburgh, 6 May 1953) is a Scottish footballer who plays a midfielder. In 1978 he wore the Liverpool shirt with which he immediately won his first European Cup, followed by those of 1981 and 1984: the last one saw the final of the competition for the first time, played at the Olympic stadium in Rome between the English and the hosts Giallorossi decided on penalties (with Souness among the penalty takers who scored). In the meantime, since 1981 he had become the captain of the team, which he led to victory in the championship three consecutive times from 1982 to 1984, after the successes of 1979 and 1980. The Roman Champions Cup final was his last match with the Reds, who left after 356 games and 58 goals. His career continued in Italy, joining Sampdoria where he remained for two seasons, contributing, in 1985, to the victory of the Sampdoria club's first important trophy, the Italian Cup, also scoring a goal in the final. He moved to Glasgow Rangers in 1986 and remained there until 1991 as player-manager, winning four titles in five seasons. He made his debut for the Scottish national team on 30 October 1974. He played in the 1986 World Cup, thus ending his national team career with 54 matches. In 2008 the British tabloid The Sun placed him first in the ranking of the most fouled footballers ever.
