Gianluigi Buffon, known as Gigi (Carrara, 28 January 1978), is an Italian footballer, considered by many to be the best goalkeeper in the history of football. With the clubs he won ten Serie A championships - an absolute record -, one Serie B championship, six Italian Cups, seven Italian Super Cups, one UEFA Cup, one Ligue 1 championship and one French Super Cup. With the Italian national team, of which he holds the record for appearances (176), he was world champion in 2006 and European vice-champion in 2012, participating in five World Cups, four European Championships and two Confederations Cups. He is the player with the most appearances in the history of Serie A, as well as the one who played the most matches in the top Italian championship with the Juventus shirt, a club of which he is the most successful player in history with 19 trophies won.
