Literature
Fabio Cannavaro (Naples, 13 September 1973) is a former Italian footballer, who played as a defender. Considered as one of the greatest defenders in the history of football, in 2006 he won the Ballon d'Or (the fifth Italian winner of the award, after the native Omar Sívori, Gianni Rivera, Paolo Rossi and Roberto Baggio), after having been champion of the world with the Italian national team, of which he held the record for appearances (136) from 2009 to 2013 (subsequently surpassed by Gianluigi Buffon) and of which he was the captain from 2002 to 2010; he is also the second player with the most appearances as captain for the national team (79, still behind Buffon). After his debut with Napoli, in 1995 he moved to Parma, a team with which he won two Italian Cups, the UEFA Cup and the Italian Super Cup. Subsequently, after a brief spell at Inter, in 2004 he moved to Juventus and after the Calciopoli scandal he moved to Real Madrid where he won two consecutive Primera División championships, in 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. He then returned to Juventus before ending his career with Al-Ahli, a team from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
