Literature

W. Klein, New York, Editions du Seuil, Paris, 1956, pp. 174, 175
Returning to New York after the end of the Second World War, which he had fought in Europe, William Klein photographed it as no one had ever done before, boldly emphasising its contradictions in a black and white full of contrasts that thus became metaphors. The book he had unsuccessfully proposed to American publishers who did not recognise themselves in that style was instead published in France with a title that has entered publishing history: 'Life is Good and Good For You in New York 1954-55'.
