Information

oil on canvas
cm 143 x 199

The painting, unpublished, is a new addition to the catalogue of Giacomo Farelli, a protagonist of the second half of the seventeenth century in Naples alongside Paolo de Matteis and Francesco Solimena. Farelli initially trained with Andrea Vaccaro, maintaining, however, a very distinct identity from his master. He worked mainly in Naples, but was also active in Abruzzo for numerous and important patrons, such as the Dukes of Atri and the d'Avalos del Vasto.
The painting can probably be dated to 1665-1670, when the artist's language softened thanks to the influences of the Emilian artists present in Naples, while maintaining its characteristic expressive force.
This attribution has been confirmed by Professor Riccardo Lattuada on the basis of photos.
The painting has an expertise of dr Patrizio Basso Bondini.
