The original allegorical invention celebrates, in the upper part, the Church (or Religion) that mirrors itself in the Truth, while at the bottom there are five chained figures, which allude to the infidels, to whom a soldier with a torch in his hand shows the Truth. We point out a painting on copper by Vaccaro, at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore (Maryland, USA), similar in composition to the drawing offered in the lot but larger in format and more refined in details.
