The painting is a second version of the one preserved in the church of Santa Maria Assunta di Civita, Arpino, en pendant with a San Giovanni Evangelista and datable around 1625-27 (see H. Roettgen, ll cavalier Giuseppe Cesare d'Arpino. Un grande pittore nello splendore della fama e nella inconstanza della cultura , Rome 2002, p. 445).
