We are grateful to Dr. Emanuele Zappasodi for having advanced the present attribution, on the basis of color photographs.

The scholar finds a comparison with Gherardo di Giovanni del Fora's altarpiece depicting Madonna and Child and Santi preserved in Esztergom, Museo Cristiano.

A multifaceted artist, mosaicist, miniaturist and organist, Gherardo was probably a pupil of Domenico Ghirlandaio. Many of his works on wood and fresco have been lost, while some of his splendid illuminated manuscripts have come down to us, including the Missal of Sant'Egidio , now preserved in Florence, Museo del Bargello.
