The scene is dominated by the monumental arch, passage and belvedere at the same time, as underlined by the balustrade in the background, which accompanies and incorporates the lazy activities of the characters that animate city life. In spite of the solidly classical layout, the arch is off-center and the figures, which surround it, are almost the same size as the vases and plants. The latter together with the tufts, which emerge here and there from cornices and columns, are naturalistic inserts of great visual impact. The architectures of the painting seem to refer to an ideal city and are well reconciled with the large rooms of the noble eighteenth-century Italian residences, where foreign collectors stayed and who brought, on their return journey to their homeland, these large backdrops with intense, valuable colors souvenir of your stay in Italy.
