… In ancient Rome, the Concord between the social bodies and the civil and military institutions of the State was one of the main values: temples were dedicated to the deified Concord, the most important of which stood on the Campidoglio and often, not surprisingly, the Senate held its meetings. However, this reverse does not only intend to celebrate Concordia as a value of a general nature, but also the specific harmony between the three coregent Augusti of the time, Gratian, Valentinian II and Theodosius (see the triple G in the legend). In addition to the "official" motivation, it cannot be excluded that, as happened several times also for emissions of previous periods, the call for harmony among the Augusti constituted a form of propaganda, aimed at denying contrary voices, which often however corresponded to the reality of facts. …
