Round, rifled barrel, octagonal at the base (bore clean, clearly visible rifling), 11 mm cal. at the nozzle, provided with foresight and club guide for the bayonet, stamped "E S" and "M" inside circles, numbered, dated "T 1868", and marked "G" and "E", provided with adjustable and foldaway rear sight. Working sliding-revolving bolt with model inscription and marking of the Imperial Tulle manufacture. G" marks and coeval numbering. Wooden stock in good condition with clearly visible stamps on the butt stock and date of "1868"; stock numbered en suite with the rest. Iron mounts and ramrod. Screw of the butt-plate with dot. With sabre-bayonet (length: 69.7 cm) with different numbering, from the St. Etienne manufactory, and date of 1873. Iron scabbard also with non-coeval numbering. Small signs of use and time. The markings and the dotted screw suggest that it was used by the troops of the Papal States. See the articles"I Mazzocchi e l'Armeria Pontificia" and "Belle da Abbordare" by Carlo de Vita and Alfredo Bartocci respectively, published on Diana Armi. These articles describe the peculiar procedure of marking weapons used in the Papal States.
