Curved, single-and short-false-edged blade, with fuller on most of its length, with clearly visible marking on the back: 'Manuf.re Imp.ale de Chatellerault sp.bre 1855'. One-quillon, brass hilt, numbered "885" and with remains of marks, short cap. Leather-covered grip with brass wire binding. Iron scabbard with different numbering, two lugs. Probably of Papal use. Photographed and described in 'Storia dell'Arma Bianca Italiana' by C. Calamandrei (ed. Olimpia 1999) on p. 435. Indicated as an unidentified sabre by gunners based on the French 1829 model: "il numerale che compare al centro della crociera è pontificio" (the number in the centre of the crossbar is pontifical).
