Information

Regno Italico
length 95 cm
Straight blade of triangular section with hollow sides, blued at the forte and engraved with small racemes and trophies featuring remains of gilding, marked "A.K." at the base. Minor signs of time. Beautiful mercury-gilt bronze hilt with well-preserved finishing. The shell-guard finely worked in relief with effigy of the Napoleonic imperial eagle protecting with its wings two shields surmounted with the crowns of France and Italy respectively; around palm leaves and oak branches. Guard with five-pointed star between laurel leaves. Pommel shaped as a plumed hemet worked in the round. Grip with four mother-of-pearl plates (one tends to come off) and small staves at corners. Inside the shell-guard the signature "Masson Rue St. Martin n. 120 in Paris". Well-preserved earlier leather scabbard with gilt metal mounts and engraved decorations, button worked as a palmette. Very rare and interesting.
