Original illustration made by Mattotti for his famous interpretation of Dante's Inferno published for the first time in the volume "La Divina Commedia - Inferno" by Nuages editions in 1999. The most iconic image of the entire artwork, the incipit of the first canto of Hell and, by extension, of the entire poem: "In the middle of the journey of our life / I found myself in a dark forest, / because the straight path was lost". << Mattotti dove into Comedy for what it is first and foremost: a book of adventures. He read it as one of his most inspired navigators, Jorge Luis Borges, asks us to read it: with abandonment and naivety, "with the faith of a child". It is with the faith of a child that Mattotti launched himself into Hell: recovering phantasmagoria lost in the dreamlike closets of childhood, favoring the nightmare against the symbol, unleashing the eye on the footsteps of ghosts, witches, vampires, Satanists >> (Jonny Costantino). Signed on the back.
