Specialist Notes

Publishedin installments on the AlterAlter supplement, this story is divided into threeparts that are "dreamed" by the protagonists. Valentina reads thepirate spaceship to her little son Mattia who would have liked the story tocontinue and so she dreams of its sequel. The baton then passes to Valentinawho, in turn, dreams of the second part of the story from which this page istaken. While sleeping, Valentina thinks she is being bitten by mosquitoes inone hand but it is only a suggestion dictated by the fact that her dream ispopulated by gigantic insects that attack some of the protagonists of hernightmare. Crepax is not new to this kind of hideous visions (think of thegiant spider that occurs in the dreams of The Force of Gravity) and he knowsthat in the interpretation of dreams, giant insects symbolize obsessivethoughts, feelings of guilt, people from whom we feel persecuted and againstwhom we feel helpless.
