Specialist Notes
Inspiredby the novel of the same name by Emmanuelle Arsan and published in Italy byOlympia Press (as well as translated in a dozen foreign countries with greatsales success), this is the second comic book version created by Crepax afterHistoire d'O of a famous erotic novel written by others. The result is anincredible kaleidoscope of sensual images, characterized by a graphicvirtuosity even higher than that shown in Valentina's stories and which have astheir only common thread that of aesthetic and emotional pleasure. In thispanel, the sapphic love of the two protagonists is represented on the sameornamental texture that was the scene of another embrace, a few pages earlier, between Emmanuelle and her lover. Here Crepax was deliberately inspired by theAsian iconography of love and sex where the human body is an element of thegraphic construction perfectly in harmony with aesthetic motifs andnaturalistic elements.
