With its classic rouleau shape, it is magnificently painted on the body with a sage riding a buffalo followed by three attendants going to meet a dignitary. The scene, painted with green, yellow, red and bluish-grey enamels, takes place in a beautiful garden under a sky with sun and clouds, among pine trees, bamboo, rocks and bats. The neck, defined by a very fine band decorated with lotus flowers, is spontaneously painted with bamboo and flowers among the rocks.

Provenance: From an Italian private collection.

Catalogue notes: See the famille verte vase with identical shape but different subject in the collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing and published in 'The complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum' vol. 32, Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colours; no. 65, p. 70.
