Smoothbore, round, 16 gauge barrels, made of fine damask, with rib signed "J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET LONDON", with silver foresight. The rib with the number "2" at the breech. Well-preserved, mirrored bore with very small signs inside (perhaps just dust). On the underside, marks of the London test bench, serial numbers and "15". Fine browning (later?). Receiver finely engraved with raceme, also marked "No.2" and marked in London. Back tang marked "PATENT". The underside "PURDEY'S PATENT". Locks with external bouncing cocks, also finely engraved with racemes, well working and signed "PURDEY". The palm-shaped lever-opening key placed in front of the trigger guard. This, as well as the trigger guard itself and its tang, with remains of bluing. Matching serial number on the barrels, tangs of the trigger guard and cross (with No. 2). Butt and fore-end made of marbled wood, both with finely checkered segments. The fore-end with slight missing parts and minor restorations. The butt stock with a silver shield on the underside with the inscription "COUNT HESPEL" surmounted by a comital crown and the date "1875" above it. The butt plate also made of sheet wood. Kept in a travel case, not matching but of the same period, with wooden frame covered in leather and worked as a briefcase. With antique red cloth lining. Provided with some accessories.
