Rifled barrel featuring mark shaped as an eagle's head, and marks "V" and "P", provided with foresight, 59 cal. at the nozzle. Tang with model date "1855" and rear sight with foldaway sight leaves, numbered up to "4". Percussion lock provided with Maynard trigger system. Lock plate marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD", with eagle and date "1856". Long wooden stock (one crack above the lock and one in the middle of the grip). Brass mounts. Iron backstrap with open-work to mount the removable shoulder stock. Articulated iron ramrod. Remains of number "2" visible on the butt-plate. Provided with removable shoulder stock, probably a later production, 20th century, however a well-made item.
