A beautiful case containing the launching mallet and chisel for H.M.S. Caroline, 1882

dimensions case 35,5 x 15 x 15,5 cm.
Made of richly carved wood. The lid with a central, parallelepiped relief featuring an openwork inscription in Baroque script, around the relief an oak leaf frame beautifully worked in relief. The outer margin with a lightly raised floral frame on a granulated background. The sides of the case with velvet placed on plates pierced with floral motifs. The fabric with some signs of time. The base decoration is similar to the one of the frame on the lid. On the inside of the lid is a framed picture placed under glass depicting the H.M.S. Caroline in chine and watercolour on paper, bearing a legend at the bottom featuring the technical details of the ship and the name of the captain ‘T.M. Jones’ and the superintendent builder ‘J. Angear’. The interior of the case lined in blue velvet (small defects) and provided with supports for the two launching instruments. Inside is the wood hammer enriched with floral and oak leaf carvings, the handle of the chisel worked en suite and featuring steel head. The lock does not work, the key is inside
