Uniform consisting of a jacket and trousers, personally gifted by the King to the renowned painter Edoardo Gelli on the occasion of the creation of his second portrait of the sovereign, executed in 1889, in which Umberto I wears a uniform similar to the one presented here. Double-breasted black cloth jacket (with small damaged parts on the back); velvet collar, cuffs and false pockets with red piping and beautiful silver threads embroidery; large five-pointed star on the collar, cuffs with three-line decorations, the same pattern also on the lower part of the back. The epaulettes are missing. On the chest are buttonholes for four grand cross badges and for a row of clasps on a ribbon. The silver-covered buttons are decorated with a trophy in bas-relief. The inner part is partially lined with red and white silk (several missing and damaged parts), on the collar there is a label "A. FARE’ E CO. MILANO ROMA". The trousers are made of light blue fabric, damaged by moths, with double stripe in silver and buttons marked "A. FARE’ E CO.", lined inside at the top with white silk; one of the four buckles at the end of the stripes is missing.
