Nuremberg
height 170 cm.
Burgonet with one-piece hammered skull, provided with low comb featuring deep twisted notch decorations. The upper part of the skull with longitudinal fullers; the two fullers along the base of the comb and the front border of the skull engraved with spirals on a black granulated ground. The nape, where the fullers converge, is crossed transversely by a toothed band decorated with lilies. Raised and pointed brim ribbed at the center, with a rebated margin and twisted border, decorated witn an engraved band on all the edges. Movable cheekpieces, margin decorated en suite and twisted lower border. Nape-guard worked en suite. Back with two holes for the missing plume-holder. Breastplate worked in two pieces, completely grooved, the neckline slightly rebated and with a wide band engraved with lying anthropomorphic figures holding a vase placed in the centre, at the ends other figures, all connected by floral motifs on a granulated black background; with five holes for a rest on the right side; movable gussets worked and decorated en suite with the neckline. Also the backplate worked in two pieces, with thick fluted work, the upper part en suite with the breastplate, rebated gussets and with raised twisted border, with engraved band st the base of the lower plate; culet blade riveted and worked in the usual manner. The two loin-guards are fixed to the breastplate with four swivel hooks, six-plate tassets riveted on the lower-one, with rebated margin, engraved en suite and with twisted borders. Two-piece gorget, smooth with strongly enlarged and twisted border, three front and rear pavilion blades decorated with typical grooves. Complete brassards worked and decorated en suite with grooves and engraved bands, both spaudlers with Nuremberg mark and another gunsmith's mark, the latter not entirely visible, probably "FS" with figures divided by an element and surmounted by a lily(? ), in Spalletti's second blade there is a central leaf-shaped decoration with raised centre provided with oblique notch decorations and engraved on the inner surface; the wing of the left elbow-piece with hole to hold a joust element. Gauntlets with cuff and six-plate gauntlet and back with six scales, five-plate fingers (the thumb and little finger with four plates); worked with the usual grooves and engraved en suite; the left gauntlet featuring remains of a Nuremberg mark and a different gunsmith's mark from that of the spaudler. Full-leg defense consisting of greaves, with three-piece cuissards, also three-piece knee-cop provided with a wing, all elements worked en suite; the greaves ribbed in the middle, engraved with a triangular banded decoration; plated sabaton, the last plate worked with grooves. Small restorations and minor missing parts, the engraving is clearly visible in several places, in others less or slightly not visible. All elements were surely manufactured for a person of important lineage and small stature. The mannequin is not included.
