Finarte in collaboration with Urania Casa d’Aste presents a special auction entirely dedicated to the famous French costume and set designer Erté (Romain de Tirtoff) and the artists who gave life to the myth of Parisian Music Halls in the early 20th century.

With almost 100 original designs including fashion costumes, theatre sets and editorial illustrations, we are proud to present the wider catalgoue auction ever dedicated to the father of Art Deco.

Known by the pseudonym Erté (the French pronunciation of his initials R.T.), Romain De Tirtoff moved to Paris in the early 1910s where he began collaborating with fashion designer Paul Poiret; it was his fashion designs that made him world famous. Erté also shines in numerous fields of applied arts: he creates illustrations, jewellery, interior design, stage and film sets and costumes.
His works are exhibited in the most prestigious museum collections around the world, from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

To enrich the catalogue we present a selection of the most important costume designers of the legendary Parisian Music Halls, artists who revolutionised the style of the first decades of the 20th century with their works, artists such as Charles Gesmar, Ladislaus Czettel and Freddy Wittop who gave life to the époque d'or that has remained in the collective imagination of entire generations.

A catalogue full of fascinating and timeless works for all lovers of visual art awaits you.

Finarte is pleased to announce that the Franco Maria Ricci Foundation is preparing an important exhibition dedicated to Erté, set to take place at the Labirinto della Masone in Fontanellato (Parma) from March to July 2026. Buyers of the works featured in the Erté & the Paris Music Hall auction will be contacted through Finarte and will have the opportunity to loan their pieces for the exhibition.
