Specialist Notes

The Sassone decoration is typical of the Doccia manufacture between 1755 and 1770. This decoration is particularly linked to the production of the painter Angelo Fiaschi, active in Doccia from 1738 to 1775, as well as to the painter Simone Villoresi, active in the manufacture between 1759 and 1778. Over the years, the decoration remained similar in its formula of scrolls and racemes, but the figures of Asian dignitaries, derived from the Meissen iconographies, were abandoned to make room in the last quarter of the eighteenth century for scenes of pastoral life taken from the world of Arcadia and mythology.
