Specialist Notes

Accompanied by expertise by Ulrich Middeldorf, Florence, 8 September 1970, who considers them "of beautiful fusion and beautiful period patina and excellent conservation"

The prototype by Niccolò Roccatagliata (Genoa 1559 circa - Venice 1629), dating back to the first quarter of the 17th century, is preserved in the Bargello National Museum in Florence. The pair of andirons in the Bargello testify to Niccolò Roccatagliata's adherence to the late Mannerist taste that persisted in Venice under the influence of Vittoria, Campagna and Aspetti even towards the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the following one.
