Specialist Notes

Highly sought after work.

It owes its fame to the abundance of engravings showing surgical instruments, apparatus and operations in use in the 17th and 18th centuries. The first edition contained only 43 plates. Garrison Morton 5571 (for the first Latin edition of 1655) “Scultetus is famous for its illustrations of surgical procedures and instruments. This was the most popular surgical text of the 17th century.” - Hahn & Dumaître, p. 201/204 - Waller 8790 (describes only the French edition of 1675) - Bayle & Thillaye I.465 - Blake p.412 - Dezeimeris IV. 132.
