Specialist Notes

This is Stagnino's second Dante quarto edition (the first was in 1512), which contains only the Comedy and uses the same plates. The commentary is by Landino and the text is based on that of the Aldine edition established by Bembo; on the frontispiece we can even read that the text is now printed in italics (following Aldus, but this is an innovation for the larger-format editions). Literally: "in littera cursiva impresse".
Mambelli, 27.
