Specialist Notes

First edition of Vellutello's commentary on the Divine Comedy, edited by Marcolini, which follows a few years later the commentaries on Petrarch (1525) and Virgil (1533). The text is embellished with beautiful woodcuts, which are generally ascribed to Marcolini himself .

Sander 2328; Brunet II, 503: «One of the best ancient editions of Dante»; Gamba 387: «A very beautiful edition, adorned with elegant woodcuts»; Mambelli 30: «A very rare and highly sought-after original edition of Vellutello's exposition [...] it is considered one of the best ancient editions in Italian character».
