The Dutch philologist Johann Georg Graeve (1632-1703), editor of this edition, dedicates himself with undisputed authority to the history of classical antiquity. The critical notes are due to the sixteenth-century work of the French philologist Dionysius Lambinus (1520-1572). The second part of the work includes the famous commentaries on Ciceronian texts by Aldus Manutius and other Renaissance authors.
