The Hague, Pierre De Hondt, 1746. In 4°. Thirty-one full-page plates finely engraved in copper illustrating the adventures from the original story of Don Quixote. Title page printed in red and black, two vignettes engraved by Jacobus van der Schley on the title page and on the dedication sheet. Contemporary red morocco binding, boards framed in three gold fillets, spine with five raised bands decorated with gold floral friezes and green leather insert with the title of the work. Gold edges. Ex libris by LG Larue on the front pastedown.

First edition of illustrations accompanied by an anonymously written abridged anthology of thirty-one adventures from the original story; unnumbered early plates by Charles-Antoine Coypel, Boucher, Cochin, Lebas and Trémolières, engraved by Bernard Picart, Folke, Schley and Tanjé.
