From the first year n° 1, 20 November 1870 to number 98 of 30 April 1875. Rome Tipografia Salviucci - Mugnoz - Cuggiani - Cuggiani and Santini - Milanese.
Folio, 6 years bound in 5 volumes, pp. 98; 1196 (including 6 supplements); 1188 (including 3 supplements); 1196 + 3 supplements with their own numbering; 1192; 392 with 385 satirical lithographs almost all on double sheets; there are two seized lithographs, but published separately by the publisher, in whose place a vibrant protest is printed in large letters for the seizure considered illegal: "The last escape from the pinwheel" n° 128 of 5 June 1873 and "Meditation and comparisons" n° 92 of 23 April 1874, slight defects.  Coeval cloth binding, gold title on the spine, slight abrasions and usual signs of aging.

Specialist Notes

All the publications of this famous newspaper, papal and fiercely anti-unitarian. "The voice of intransigent Catholics, “la Frusta” has as its distinctive features an aggressive tone and a style tending towards the popular, accentuated by the use of dialect". (Maiolo, "The Roman periodical press of the nineteenth century"). Founder and director, as reported by news reports of the time, was Carlo Marini, anti-liberal and papal. For the ferocious persecution to which the newspaper was subjected with around 60 seizures and consequent destruction of the newspapers, thefts and acts of vandalism.
