[Lyon, Barthélemy Trot, 2 September 1511]. In 8th. Title printed in red and black with Trot's Florentine lily in red, widespread browning and marginal wormholes on the first and last installments, curious modern binding in full brown leather with dry stamping on the plates and spine, gilt and embossed cuts . Together in the lot are the Orations of Cicero in the Florentine edition of Giunta dated February 1521, without the title page.
Specialist Notes
This is the second edition of Xenophon printed in Lyons by Trot; previously an undated edition had already been published around 1504. The texts of Xenophon included are: Cyropaedia, Devenatione, De republica et de legibus Lacedaemoniorum, Agesilaus, Apologia pro Socrate and De tyrannide. Despite having the appearance of an Aldine forgery (due to the format and typographical characters), Aldus printed Xenophon only in the original Greek folio, and the text of this edition is actually taken from the 1502 Bolognese edition of Benedictus Hectoris , complete with Filippo Beroald's preface to Gregorius Fliscus.
