Etching printed on 4 sheets, united, 40 x 68.7 cm each, 1744. Title within a cartouche adorned with the coat of arms of Pope Benedict XIV, bottom centre: "Delineated by Andrea Chiesa and Bernardo Gambarini engineers". Sheets in good general condition except for light browning on some sheets. With modern frame.
Famous map of the Tiber river basin, from Nera to Gavignano, outlined by Andrea Chiesa and Bernardo Gambarini. The tables outline with the maximum scientific rigor that the instruments of the time allowed, the river basin from Nera to Gavigano, and are accompanied by profiles, sections, views of bridges, etc. After the disastrous flood of the Tiber in 1742, Pope Benedict XIV commissioned the two engineers from Bologna to map and study the course of the river, understand the reasons for the floods and propose remedies. The result was the creation of the map of the Tiber, which was engraved by Carlo Nolli, and two reports with proposals to reduce the damage of the floods which were published under the title 2On the causes and remedies of the floods of the Tiber" by De Rossi in 1746.
