Specialist Notes

Interesting series of volumes on canon law and related matters. Here is an essay on the contents of the first ones: Volume I (1626, 1660, 1668, 1670, 1666, 1675, 1700, 1655, pp. 291): these are the benefits that the Pope has granted to the bishops, the benefits that the Pope has given to some cities and of the titles conferred to some bishops, of the dignities that the Pope has conferred in some cathedrals, of the right of patronage, of the subrogation of some debts, of the benefits granted to some churches, of some papal bulls. At the bottom it presents an index written by a different hand. Volume II (1653, 1644, 1647, 1658, 1656, 1650, 1657, 1677, 1662, 1675, 1672,1668, 1661, 1654, 1659, 1650, 1602, 1616, 1642, 1692, 1 673, 1669, 1684, 1613 , pp. 307): the index is located at the beginning. It deals with the dispatch of the apostolic confirmation of the Cistercian order, the question of the tax on monasteries, the benefits conferred on some bishops, the canonizations, the cardinals who dismissed some bishops, the data on Gaul, the jurisdiction of the bishops over the abbots, the simony and some payments.
Volume III (1630, 1638, 1592, 1594, 1658, 1668, 1686, 1669, 1685, 1580, 1699, 1659, 1536, 1661, 1554, pp. 232): also in this volume the index is located at the beginning. These are the benefit granted to St. Peter's Basilica, the canonizations, the titles conferred on cardinals, the pontiff's family members, the concessions of confidential conferences by the Pope, the concessions made to specific cardinals, certain monasteries, the registration of illegitimate children, of some surrogacies, of the benefits granted to Gaul, of the colleges of vicars and of the benefits granted to some bishops.
Volume IV (1536, 1607, 1668, pp. 214): the index is located after p. 31, these are the benefits suspended by Innocent XII and those granted by Clement churches, of the annulment of the power of the king of Portugal to choose his own doctors of theology and of the order of St. Augustine.
Volume V (1516, 1536, 1570, 1586, 1604, 1657, 1515, 1626, 1516, 1686, 1540, 1638, 1570, 1698, 1701, 1584, 1626, 1704, 1674, 1655, 1656, pp. 210): the volume opens with the index , these are the benefits granted to the Basilica of St. Peter, the benefits for the Lateran church, the benefits for S. Lorenzo in Damaso, some coadjutorships, the right of patronage, the monasteries of Gaul, the monastery of S. Michele, the payment to the knights, the rule imposed on the chancelleries by Alexander VII, the rule imposed on the cardinals, the renewal of some payments and the cancellation of some privileges.
Volume VI (1699, 1702, 1566, 1562, 1560, 1571, 1563, 1700, 1667, 1680, 1642, 1677, 1655, 1666, p. 168): the volume opens with the index, it deals with taxes, benefits, canonizations, coadjutorship, tithes, disputes between bishops, payments, the evangelization of Hispanics and the memorial to Innocent XII.< /p>
