Specialist Notes
In the modern era we are witnessing a real explosion of texts entitled Giardino or Hortus in Latin; many of them are presented as anthologies where, behind the image of a garden enriched by all types of flowers and trees, maxims taken from the Sacred Scripture, from the tradition of the Fathers, as well as spiritual and moral sentences, short treatises of devotion are collected or collections of prayers, although under the same title it is also possible to find real treatises on spirituality. Like the Zardino de oration fructuoso (first edition Venice 1494) attributed to Nicolò da Osimo, published several times between the two centuries and which is proposed as a manual to guide in the paths of prayer.
