London, P. and D. Colnaghi, 1843. In 2°, 550 x 375 mm. With 56 hand-coloured lithograph prints of costumed characters, including 54 depicting the main characters and 2 additional plates representing varied studies of Prince Albert and the Duchess of Buccleuch, the figures are printed within borders decorated in gold, chromolithographed dedication sheet to Queen Victoria, signed “H. Johnston fecet" and printed in color by C. Graf, text printed in blue ink, the plates are accompanied by white endpapers and descriptive sheets, BEAUTIFUL LONG-GRAIN RED MOROCCAN BINDING, with the gold coat of arms of John Frederick Earl Cawdor (8 November 1790 – 7 November 1860) impressed on the plates, gold frames on the plates, spine in seven compartments with refined gold decorations and title, some slight abrasion and peeling.

The volume bears witness to one of the most famous and sumptuous balls organized by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, which attracted 2,000 guests. The participants, dressed in 13th-15th century clothing, wore the costumes or armor of their ancestors.The splendid plates of full-length portraits are accompanied by a caption about the person depicted.
