Son of Alessandro, master builder of San Pietro, Nicola Zabaglia began working at the San Pietro factory in 1686 as a simple bricklayer, but, in a short time, thanks to his ingenuity in designing and creating various equipment, he managed to obtain a "study" in attic of the central nave of the basilica, from which he could supervise maintenance work. The greatest honor given to him during his lifetime was the publication of the volume "Castelli e ponti". The folio edition was born from a project that dates back to 1714 (Marconi, 2004, p. 46), when Zabaglia's talent must have already fully emerged. The publishing project, supported by Pope Clement XI, was interrupted in 1722 upon his death, but resumed under Benedict
