The idea of standing there, still, as if made under a mother's spell, in the harsh light of day, in front of a strange man, who examines them from the front, from two thirds, in profile, to the right, to left, standing, sitting, with eyes raised as if praying to the sky or modestly bent like the reader, it strikes their delicate nerves (...)."
