Information

London, Boydell, 1777- [1819]. In 2nd. 3 volumes 2 portraits (out of 3), in volumes I and III, with 300 plates engraved in sepia-coloured half-tone, each protected by original vellum, brownings, blooms, scattered reddenings of varying degrees, elegant bindings in contemporary red morocco, decoration impressed in gold, framed plates on the plates, in the center of the round field surmounted by a crown with the motto " honni soit qui mal y pense", 5-nerved spines with author, title and friezes in gold, the third volume with different decoration , some scratches, small defects, front plate with discolored parts. On the inside of the plate there is a paper insert "Bucher Sammulung von Ph. Nathusius".

Specialist Notes

Complete copy of the third volume, often missing, which was published only in 1819 after the success of the first 2 volumes. The work contains Richard Earlom's masterful representations based on Claude Lorrain's large notebook, now in the British Museum .
