Woodcut vignette on the title page, portrait of the author engraved in copper by Kilian on the reverse of the A6 paper, woodcuts in the text depicting plans of fortifications, drawings of architectural details, attack and defense schemes, work tools, book VI with independent title page, slight browning, rare foxing, woodworm work on the internal margin of the first issues, issue B detached, margins of pp. 92-93 with slight defects, contemporary parchment binding, spine with 4 bands with manuscript title, small lack on the spine, slight defects.
Specialist Notes
Second and last edition of the first ordered course of fortification (the first dates back to 1596). Book VI is added to the text. Lorini, after having acquired considerable experience working both in Italy and abroad, became the first engineer of the Venetian Republic, designing, among other things, the well-known and imposing fortification of Palmanova.
