Elegant and refined set of five Aldine editions of Cicero, the De Philosophia (1552) two parts in one volume - Officiorum Libri tres(1552) - Rhetoricorum Ad C Herennium (1550) - Epistolae ad Atticum (1551) - Epistolae Familiares (1552), all published apud Aldi filios, in the 8th, in the frontispiece of two volumes added portrait of Cicero  from the 18th century, PERFECT EXAMPLES, FINELY BOUND IN RED MOROCCAN TO THE ARMS OF THE MARQUIS DE MENARS (Charron de Ménars, Jean-Jacques, 1643-1718), gold frame with triple fillets, 5-point spine nerves with gold decorations on the compartments, titles in gold letters, gold edges.

Specialist Notes

Jean-Jacques Charron de Ménars was a member of the Paris Parliament, maître des requêtes and président à mortier in 1691. A bibliophile, he purchased the de Thou collection, which he sold to Cardinal de Rohan in 1706. The rest of his library was sold to The Hague after his death.
