Specialist Notes
Second rarer edition on the market compared to the first published for the first time by Bevilacqua in 1585, of this important Renaissance treatise on military art dedicated to Carlo Emanuele I. Right alongside Carlo Emanuele, Busca completed fortification works such as the citadel of Bourg-en-Bresse, the fort of S. Francesco, the forts of the Consolata in Demonte and of Santa Maria in Susa, strengthening the Savoy state and strengthening its defensive organization. Returning to Milan in 1599, he was appointed "royal and ducal architect of the State" and was able to supervise several important projects, including the construction of the Fort of Fuentes. The eleven spectacular double-page plates depict Renaissance landscapes with constructions or war formations, with measurement methods, or with powerful attacks.
