Specialist Notes
Original edition of the "Lives" in the commentary of the illustrious Bolognese humanist Filippo Beroaldo (Bologna 1453 - 1505). An intriguing copy thickly annotated by a humanistic hand throughout the text, the same hand as in the initial and final endpapers of the interesting medical prescriptions. The Life of the First Twelve Emperors of Rome (including Julius Caesar) is one of the few works of classical antiquity that has come down to us almost complete, here with the commentary of the famous Bolognese philologist and humanist Filippo Beroaldo (1453 - 1505) and in the edition of "Benedictus Bononiensis" to be identified with Benedetto Faelli, active in Bologna from 1492 to 1523 "who never placed his surname in the subscriptions of the numerous beautiful editions for which Benedictus Hectoris is mostly read". Hain 15126. Ascarelli p. 51; Goff S825; HC 15126*; Pell Ms 10810; IGI 9238.
