Specialist Notes

Famous edition of the workshop of Pierre Moreau, printed with Moreau's typography and illustrated by Abraham Bosse. Only the first volume was printed by Moreau, who died in 1648. The second volume was published 10 years later, by Loyson, in "normal" cursive type: the community of booksellers had obtained a decree forbidding Moreau's widow to publish with the characters designed by her husband. Pierre Moreau (ca. 1599-1648), Parisian calligrapher, engraver and printer, created characters in imitation of calligraphic writing that have been considered among the most innovative and surprising of the time. < /div>
