Rma, Gio. Giacomo Rossi, sd [1655-1678]. In 2nd. 2 parts in 1 vol each with its own fully engraved frontispiece on a double page, with dedications to Cardinal Barbero Camerlengo and Camillo Massimi Mecenate, the second part entitled "New architectural drawings, and plans of the palaces of Rome of the most famous architects [.. .] Book Two". First part with 41 plates, second with 60 plates, all on double page engraved in etching on laid paper, each with caption, restorations, some redness and slight flowering, small woodworm hole in the white margin of some leaves, traces of humidity on the last leaves, 19th century leather binding, plates framed by a gold frame and elegant embossed frame, gold title on the spine, small restorations on the back plate, some abrasions, light signs of wear. Paper pack of the English bookseller Alan G. Thomas, whose library was sold in London by Sotheby's in 1993, lot 156.

Specialist Notes

The first publication to provide a systematic illustration of the Roman palaces built between the sec. XV and XVII. For each of the Roman palaces, known and less known, the name of the owner and the architect who built it is indicated, and most of the time they are accompanied by cross-sections and plans in the manner of a treatise on architecture.
