With 18 copper plates engraved outside the text, 4 of which are folded, including the large view of Villa Torlonia depicting the raising of the obelisk in front of a large crowd of spectators drawn and engraved by Cottafavi, sporadic flowering, tissue paper to protect the plates with embossing, elegant publisher's binding in half morocco and marbled paper, in the center of the plates the arms of the Torlonia family imprinted in gold on morocco inlay, friezes and title on the smooth spine, partially detached spine, small defects on the cap and hinges, signs of usury.
Rare original edition that tells of the raising of the two colossal pink granite monoliths quarried in Baveno and transported with onerous and complex organization to commemorate Giovanni and Anna Maria Torlonia, parents of Prince Alessandro Torlonia who commissioned the author. The publication traces the various phases of the enterprise, culminating in the public spectacle of the elevation of the two giants in the park of the villa.
