The order of San Gennaro is the main and most prestigious order of chivalry of the Royal House of Bourbon of the Two Sicilies and takes its name from the Patron Saint of the city of Naples, which was once the capital of the Kingdom. The Order is made up of a single class of Knights wearing a gold collar, red wavy silk sash and plaque. It has character noble and only some sovereigns or heads of the great noble families of both the former Kingdom and Europe are awarded. The Statutes of the Order establish that it is a Catholic institution dedicated to promoting true chivalry and Christian brotherhood. The main duty of the Knights is «l 'growth, at any cost, of the most holy Religion" and the "virtuously work" to be "heroic example of piety to God, and fidelity to their Prince".
