Venice, Camillo and Rutilio Borgominieri, 1568 (1569). In 2nd. Woodcut title page, printer's brand at the end, woodcut drop caps and friezes, with numerous woodcut illustrations in the text, title page slightly browned and with some light stains, loose A4 paper, small lack in the upper white corner of Y4, few leaves with blushing, rare and slight stains, coeval full parchment binding, handwritten title on the spine with 3 raised bands, some stains on the plates, small lack on the spine, slight defects. Handwritten note on title page and A2 paper.
Specialist Notes
First edition, rare. The work partly derives from the production of previous theorists of perspective, in particular from "Unterweysung der Messung" by Durer, published in German in 1525 and in Latin in 1532, from which, for example, the image illustrating the tool for drawing perspective on paper 2A2r is taken. Among the engravings created specifically for this work, we point out the new type of measuring instrument invented by Giacomo Fusto Castriotto on 2A4r paper and the magnificent three-dimensional front panels. There are various issues of this edition. The present copy is variant C with undated woodcut title page and a beautiful and intricate border surrounding the title, at the colophon < span style="background-color: hsl(var(--bs-white)); color: var(--bs-card-color); font-size: var(--bs-body-font-size); text-align: var(--bs-body-text-align);">has the date 1568.
