Original first edition of the most famous work of the French biologist Réaumur which assured him a place of considerable importance in the field and in the history of biology. The impressive work, initially conceived in 10 volumes, collects detailed observations on the life, habits and customs of the most varied species of insects, from a morphological, physiological and ecological point of view. The whole treatise is presented with clarity, lucidity and extreme precision. The work constitutes one of the pillars of entomology, used as a model for all subsequent similar works. The edition is accompanied by the explanatory and rich iconographic apparatus consisting of more than 200 folded copper plates, mostly engraved by Charles Simonneau.
